What backflow prevention does
Why it's required
A backflow preventer stops water from your irrigation system — which can carry fertilizer, soil, and bacteria — from being pulled back into the drinking water supply when pressure drops.
Protecting it through winter
The backflow assembly usually sits above ground and is one of the first parts to crack in a freeze. It has to be drained and protected during every fall winterization.
